WAKE UP UNCLUTTERED!

Our bedroom surroundings set the stage for how we will feel and react to each new day. Start with these small steps to reduce the chaos in your bedroom and you can create a more restful space to sleep and to wake up in.

Your bedroom should provide you with a calm, settled feeling and should be a room with minimal clutter and distraction. This space is meant to be your "healing" zone and it should contain only elements that help you to relax. Anything that causes you stress should be removed from this room!

A briefcase or pile of work, photographs of difficult family members, furniture belonging to an ex-spouse, décor that you simply don't like and any other items that provide a conscious or subconscious negative association belong elsewhere.

The floor space and pathways should be clear of any obstructions and the room should contain only what you really need in the space - exercise equipment, children's toys and overflowing laundry hampers should be banned!

Keep bedside clutter to a minimum - a stack of books you intend to read or work you intend to do sitting on your nightstand creates a visual distraction which can cause frustration and irritability.

Hang artwork in the bedroom that calms and soothes you. Choose art or landscape photographs that promote a feeling of happiness. This room is not the place for vibrant or angry art! Place meaningful artwork that you connect with most so that it is visible to you immediately upon waking.

Keep your closets and drawers well organized and free of obstructions. Allow for easy access. A messy and cluttered closet can be challenging, especially when you are in a rush to head to work. Struggling to find your clothing will set a negative tone for the day before you even leave the room!

Look around your bedroom the next time you settle into bed. What do you see? How do those things make you feel? By taking greater notice of your surroundings and making minor modifications, you can create a bedroom space that truly supports your mind and body.
